Bruno proves a knockout at Charity Boxing Night

An audience of 350 fans were treated to top quality action when the President’s Sporting Club held it’s Legends of Boxing evening.
Celebrity guests at the fundraiser held at the Manor Groves Hotel in High Wych included club president and former World Heavy Weight Champion Frank Bruno – pictured with with boxers Louis Lightfoot and Shane Peacock – Steve Collins, James Cook, Jason Matthews, Billy Walker, Colin McMillan, Charlie Magri and John H. Stracey.
Club Chairman Mike Jackson said: “It was an exceptional evening. There was some top quality boxing and some true legends in attendance.
More than £20,000 was raised from the evening, which Jackson called a “fantastic result”.
The President’s Sporting Club/Essex Disabled Sports Foundation has raised £2m to provide sporting facilities and opportunities for disabled youngsters.
Ten bouts featured local amateur clubs including Bishop’s Stortford and Hoddesdon, top London clubs including Fitzroy Lodge and boxers from the 13th Air Assault Regiment and the Frank Bruno Academy.
Bishop’s Stortford Amateur Boxing Club’s Boxer Shane Peacock opened the boxing with a great show of skill against Lightfoot of the 13th Air Assault.
Peacock boxed well in the opening round, picking off Lightfoot from range.
He started the second round strongly and the referee stopped the bout with Lightfoot unable to continue, giving Peacock the win on TKO.
Bishop’s Stortford Chairman Scott Gleed said: “It was great to see so many class bouts from a range of top clubs, and for Peacock to get this win was a lift for all out boxers.”
